Very much depends on being prepared. Every household has a different setup of computer devices and network and it is beyond our reach to guarantee a flawless operation. Please read carefully our guide for being best prepared:
1.)
By tomorrow noon all children registered will have a Microsoft 365 student account additionally to your regular Phorms student account. This is necessary because the Coding Club is an external Partner of Phorms. The account name will look like this:
simon.b@codingclub.cc <= example
It is the first name of your child you just registered with your email, followed by a dot “.” and the first letter of your last name (your last name stated in your email). The last part is for all students the same: “@codingclub.cc”.
The temporary password will be:

Download Microsoft Teams and install the software on the devices of your child. If you use a tablet, you need to install MS Teams through the AppStore or the PlayStore.
3.) Download Minecraft Education Edition as well. Used with the Coding Club account it is free and highly recommended as a learning game. If you use an iPad, you need to install it through the AppStore. Unfortunately there is no Android tablet version available at this time.
4.) Start Microsoft Teams and login with the children Coding Club account. Now you will see two team rooms if you are new and three team rooms if you are a regular CC member. Choose “CC Spring Holiday Camp” and enter the top channel named “General” or “Allgemein”. Inside the channel you can connect to the video conference. If you can find it, look for a blu icon or a blue area bar with a “Join” button. Links and announcements are also in the channel.
I will start the video conference already at noon time so you can login earlier, test your computer and get used to the application. The more fluent your child is with MS Teams or any other meeting app the better will be your experience. It could be possible that your child will meet other students already before the start of the event inside MS Teams. Take advantage of this and try out the meeting app functions. Ideally the 3 main important functions to start with are trained a bit before we begin:
1. The screen “Share” function. So your child will be able to share her screen to present something. It is also important for us teachers so we can help fixing a problem on your child’s computer.
2. The mute button. We need to learn discipline especially in online meetings and avoid distraction from noise through all those microphones connected. The default setting for a students should be being on mute. In MS Teams, responsibility about being muted or not lies sorely by the participants (the students). They need to learn this responsibility. If a student wants to say something in a large group they should post a message (teacher will read) and wait for their call. In small groups it is ok if the students unmute themselves (they are allowed to unmute) and raise their voice cautiously.
3. Finding the way back from the video screen back to the message postings. Links in the message posts or board in the general channel guide the students to learning resources on other websites.
If you are facing technical problems there is actually not much we can help shortly before or during the event. Kindly get in touch with us afterwards so it is quite enough to fix your issue. I’m glad to help and I know it is a difficult situation. Don’t be turned away if it just does not work 100% from the start. It is normal. It is a learning curve and your child will adapt fast. Your kid will enjoy having a project in collaboration with their peers which they can do from home, even being isolated.

Being a member of the Coding Club includes a student licence for Microsoft Office 365 Education and Minecraft Education Edition. Microsoft 365 Education is included since it is the lernmanagement system of the Frankfurt Coding Club. The students will make use of collaboration tools and a virtual, persistent classroom, where results can be edited, organised, shared and assessed. Instead of Zoom, the Coding Club is using Microsoft Teams for collaboration and video conference.
The education edition of Minecraft is a Microsoft product as well. For student access there will be a single student account for sign-on. Be aware, this is not the Phorms school account! With the Coding Club student account your child can login with her credentials both in Minecraft Education Edition and Microsoft Teams!

This Microsoft school account can be added as a user on your PC or Mac at home. You can access the account by using a browser and open: https://office.com. The password can be easily changed by going to “account settings” inside MS Teams or on https://office.com.
For the first session today, you will need to prepare the following:

Download and install Minecraft Education Edition. Download from here:

On iPad download and install “Minecraft Education Edition” from the App Store. If you can’t find it, use the download link above in Safari on your iPad.
Do a test login into Minecraft Education Edition with the login credentials above (school account). After successfully starting Minecraft Edu, test if your home network internet connection works with Minecraft accessing servers to load and share content: Click or tab “Play” => then “View Library” => “Lessons” => “Computer Science” => “Hour of Code”. You can login 15 minutes earlier into MS Teams, 16:15. From there you will be invited and guided to the videoconference room. Just wait for an invitation message to pop up.

What you need:
1.) Your computer device for home schooling with a headset or the ability to do audio calls. Video calls will also be used and interacting with video is more engaging and fun. Ideally the student has two devices, like a tablet and a desktop or notebook computer.
2.) The Coding Club login credentials, username and password. A student account information paper sheet has been handed out a while ago. If you need help with the login credentials, write me an email and I will send it to you asap.

Welcome Session
Please select your preferred Welcome Session. The Welcome Session replaces the first week of class – students will join their ongoing Junior Coding Club class in the second week. During the Welcome Session, students are introduced to their Junior Coding Club level. An instructor will work with the students to navigate the appropriate coding environment and build the first project. This ensures that students are familiar with some basics before transitioning into their Junior Coding Club level.
